I didn't go to my husband's "family reunion" this year because they are BORING!!! We are newlyweds and I have only attended 2 however, OUR family reunions have set the bar very high for me. I haven't attended all of them but I have enjoyed the ones I did attend. I like the traveling to different cities for each one and I love dressing up for the Sat nite dinner dance. I told my husband his family needs to do something similar to ours. I liked the suggestions for the kids and the fundraising in Art's email!! A lot of the ideas were pretty good!

Response to questions from 09/26/11 email:
a) Option 3
b) Rating attended reunion:
• 1990 = B+ (was the model for several of the reunions that followed)
• 1992 = C+ (not the fault of the host, but just remember spending too much time traveling on Saturday to and from the reunion and not enough time at the reunion. Squeezing so much into a short period of time didn’t allow for enough quality one-on-one time with family members.)
• 1998 = B+ (the host was all about doing whatever was necessary to make it a success and I think the committee really pitched in on this one.)
• 2000 = D+ (If I didn’t play golf all day Saturday, I guess the lack of family events would have force me to sit in the hotel lobby and watch people come and go)
• 2002 = C+ (Really remember the classy event at the restaurant and the food was good --- Understanding there may have been financial problems with this reunion, if true, financial oversight and overall guidance from the committee may have helped)
• 2008 = C (This one had some good things going for it, like the scenic location, water activities, lobster-bake and a great family photo, but outside of the water activities and short boat cruise there weren’t any other activities as I recall. Still an outstanding job by just two members for what should’ve been a project with more family members involved.)
• 2010 = D (This was a hard one because the effort was there, but the host just bit off more than what was chewable by a hosting team of one. The host was so busy that time wasn’t available to conduct business before the reunion with family by email or phone. Too much time in a parking lot on Saturday afternoon with nothing to do. Further evidence that it is virtually impossible for a team that’s made up of one member to deliver a successful reunion.)
c) No and Yes
d) I’ve covered the things that I would add in the 09/26/11 email.
e) Yes and Yes
f) The motivation of any host should be to make the reunion more successful than any previous one. The “Satisfaction Survey” can measure the level of success as rated by attendees and the plus or minus to the bank account can measure financial success.
